A common myth surrounding electric vehicles (EVs) is that their batteries don’t last as long as the cars themselves. This misconception can contribute to range anxiety and deter potential buyers. However, evidence shows that EV batteries are more durable than many believe.

Critics of EV battery longevity often point to concerns about their lifespan. Yet, real-world examples paint a different picture. Take, for instance, a Tesla Model X that has covered over 640,000 km, with its original battery pack lasting more than 507,000 km. This is particularly impressive given the harsh conditions of commercial use, which includes frequent full discharges and rapid charging.

Closer to home, an Australian Tesla Model S used for airport pickups and fast-charging nearly all the time had its battery replaced only after 666,666 km—equivalent to 33 years of driving 20,000 km annually. A broader analysis by Recurrent Auto, which studied 15,000 EVs, found that only about 4% of EV batteries need replacement after ten years. Older models with less advanced battery management systems see a higher replacement rate of 7.5%, but this is still relatively low.

Although some battery replacements are inevitable, the cost of EV batteries is dropping rapidly. By 2030, battery replacement costs are expected to fall by 40%, making them more affordable and alleviating concerns about high costs.

We understand that range anxiety and battery longevity concerns are significant for potential EV owners. That’s why we are actively expanding our EV charging network to ensure that drivers have access to reliable and convenient charging solution. By increasing the availability of our EVX Polechargers in communities where people live, work, and play, we are helping to alleviate range anxiety and support the broader adoption of electric vehicles.

Our commitment extends to providing accessible, sustainable, and future-proof charging solution. We partner with local governments and councils to install EVX Polechargers efficiently and with minimal impact, ensuring that our network grows in tandem with the increasing number of EVs on the road.

With real-world examples demonstrating impressive battery longevity and decreasing replacement costs, it’s clear that EV batteries are more durable than many believe. Our ongoing efforts to expand the EV charging network further support the sustainable shift towards electric mobility, making it easier for everyone to go green.
